For renewed funding of Math Matters, a comprehensive teacher professional development model designed to improve mathematics instruction for students in grades 6-8, equipping teachers with the skills, strategies, and support needed to accelerate learning and close opportunity gaps. This will allow Teaching Matters to deliver its Math Matters Learning Acceleration Program to an additional four middle schools in NYC, directly impacting 30 teachers through intensive, job-embedded coaching and 1,000 students. The program promotes rigorous and engaging instruction, emphasizing conceptual understanding as the foundation for procedural fluency. This accelerated learning approach has proven to be more effective than remediation. Coaches support teachers in improving practice and keeping students on track, while integrated edtech tools enhance small group instruction, enabling teachers to respond precisely to both student- and teacher-directed activities. Teaching Matters works to increase teacher effectiveness, one of the most critical factors regarding student success, by transforming how educators work together at urban public schools, helping the most effective teachers to develop the necessary skills by which to then lead their peers and drive school-wide improvement.
