To work with the City University of New York to improve the CUNY Tutor Corps designed to improve student outcomes in math. The program places trained CUNY students into NYC Public School math classrooms to provide targeted support to students, primarily in Algebra I, a critical gateway course to access upper-level STEM courses in high school. The program’s full promise is currently impacted by a lack of timely, accurate, and integrated student data needed to effectively measure its success and optimize its intervention strategies. They seek to make the program more effective for the students it serves across 25 NYC high schools. To address this issue, New Visions proposes to build a dedicated and secure data infrastructure which will better connect tutoring actions to each student’s ensuing performance. The New Visions Portal will deliver accurate and contextualized student rosters to tutors and program leaders, and build new Portal features to link tutoring participation to student outcomes to allow for the effective evaluation and continuous improvement across all schools. New Visions for Public Schools serves as a laboratory of innovation within NYC’s public-school reform efforts, creating and refining helpful new approaches to systemic challenges.
